About

Alex Bendaña, is a musician/composer and one of the founding members of the Grammy award- winning band La Santa Cecilia. With four Grammy nominations, this Los Angeles based band is at the forefront of the bicultural experience in the United States. Born in Caracas, Venezuela to Nicaraguan parents, his family moved to the states in search of a better future and opportunities as many immigrants do. Growing up in South Los Angeles with a diverse community, it allowed him to develop a love for all types of music like Cumbia, Hip Hop, Norteño, Salsa, Motown, Ska, and Rock. At the age of twelve, Alex had his first gig with a Norteño band and was instantly hooked. Performing in front of an audience and feeling a connection with people through music, I knew I had to do this for the rest of my life. His musical influences include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Marley, Motown, James Brown, Oscar De Leon, Los Tigres Del Norte, N.W.A, The Doors, The Specials, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Eagles, Beatles, and CreedenceClearwater revival. An avid learner of the arts, he studied music at California State University of Los Angeles becoming part of the Jazz, Latin, and Pop musical ensembles. He has also performed, recorded, and shared the stage with Elvis Costello, Los Lobos, John Paul Jones, Ryan Bingham, Fito Paez, Eugenia Leon, Enrique Bunbury, Ozomatli, Cafe Tacuba, Pepe Aguilar, Alejandro Sanz, Marlango, and many more. It's an exciting time for music especially here in the United States because of its immense diversity. The charisma of all cultures and its people are inspiring. Each day I feel lucky to have grown in such a beautiful city like Los Angeles.
